April Fool's Day

Don't say you weren't warned. I hope you read this post early so you won't be fooled. It is that day again. The day when your heart can be stopped by some statement made by a prankster posing as your friend. Then, just before you hit the swooning couch, you hear those dreaded words, "April Fool", and realize you forgot. Then you can spend the rest of the day trying to find someone dumber than you are to do the same thing to. I think they should move the Income Tax filing day to this day. We are hearing a lot during this political period from our politicians about how they are going to better use our tax dollars. Then, next January, regardless of who wins we will imagine we are hearing those words again, "April Fool." Then we spend the next four years trying to find someone on our side to pull the same nasty little trick on the guys from the other side. You would think we would learn someday and pull the flush handle on the whole lot of previously elected imposters and start over.

April Impressions

Zephyrs stir miniature
soldiers of lavender
and salmon pink
standing at attention
on a carpet of pastel green.

Purple tendrils
surround a phone pole.

Splashes of white and pink
peak out from
Winter’s stark remnants.

An ice blue sky
domes the hillsides
carpeted in yellow and blue.

Songbird fugues
pierce the air
backed up by the
steady gurgle of a
crystal stream.

Subtle hints of perfume
carried on the breeze
refresh and revive
my wakening spirit.

The greatest of faults, I should say, is to be conscious of none. -
